About Waterfront Pavilion

Urana is blessed with this beautiful multipurpose complex consisting of three separate lockable rooms: Sunset - our function room designed for celebrations, conferences and large group events; Red Gum - our community meeting room and Waterfront Fitness, our community gymnasium. Waterfront Fitness is being managed independently by a volunteer committee Urana Aquatic Leisure Centre Committee.

A decision was made for Urana Bowling and Community Club to manage Waterfront Pavilion given our experience in good governance, event management and customer service.

We are grateful to so many members of our community who have worked together to bring this dream into a reality. The opportunity arose with the generosity of the Yuluma Cullivel Bus Committee who had operated a school bus service between 1952 and 2014 accumulating substantial funds. The service was privatised in 2014 due to increasing regulation with $200,000 being distributed to local organisations. The remaining funds $230,000 were transferred to Urana Shire Council and held in trust for the specific purpose of erecting a community building to be developed on the banks of the Urana Aquatic Centre.

When the former Shires Urana and Corowa amalgamated the funds with interest totalled $269,000. This was then transferred to Federation Council and together with Stronger Community Funding & Country Community Funding from the NSW & State Government the ‘State of the Art’ Waterfront Pavilion and Waterfront Fitness became a reality.

The dream was initiated by the former Yuluma Cullivel Bus Committee and made possible by their significant contribution.

It has then been supported by many organisations including:

  • The Urana Aquatic Leisure Centre Committee who were the driving force with their input ideas and physical involvement. Committee members who volunteered their own equipment and time working to help prepare the site, plant turf and complete the landscape

  • Community volunteers who willingly devoted hours into writing grant applications

  • Federation Council executive and staff for their expertise, application and perseverance in ensuring this project happened

  • Architects Regional Design Service Corowa Phillip Neilson & Aaron Nicholls for their professional design and amazing ideas!

  • The successful tenderers Kennedy Builders Mulwala for their quality workmanship and completing the project on schedule

  • Riverina Water who provided a generous grant of $20,000 towards gym equipment

  • Thomas Durnan former local who owns and manages several gymnasiums brought a wealth of experience and practical advice. He also planned the layout, sourced and assembled all gym equipment.

  • Georgie James Photography Rutherglen who captured the stunning images

  • The volunteer Urana Aquatic Leisure Centre Committee (UALCC) who manages Waterfront Fitness. We are grateful for their ongoing work.

We thank the community for your trust in us and look forward to helping you celebrate your special occasions, your milestone anniversaries, and other events that require a beautiful venue on the banks of an idyllic lake.
